Membership

A note about membership

Membership is optional.  You will not be treated any differently if you aren’t a member.  You will have the same access to the pastors, to prayers, and to the general life of the church.  Membership is taking that next step saying, “Journey is my church home, and I want to take an active role in supporting its life, ministry, and mission.”  It is about making a commitment for the long-term.

What is membership at Journey?

Membership is making an outward and public affirmation during service that you have faith in Jesus Christ and make a commitment to grow as His disciple within the life of the church.  As members of Journey GMC, we covenant together to strengthen the ministry of the church through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.  We also commit to share the Christian life together.  We worship, we serve others, we encourage one another, we pray for each other, and we celebrate with one another.

Basically saying, membership means, as a follower of Christ, you choose Journey as your church home and take responsibility for its life and ministry.  It means showing up, supporting the church financially as you are able, serving where you can, praying for the church and one another, committing to growing as a follower of Jesus, and helping us share Christ with our community.  Membership is saying, “This is my church, and I want to be part of what God is doing here.

Benefits of Membership:  For us at Journey, it’s not the benefits of membership we focus on, but the responsibility of membership.  As a member, we actually ask you to park a little further away on Sunday morning to keep the ‘best spots’ for the visitors.  As a member, we ask you to serve the church by volunteering.  As a member, we ask you to be engaged in at least two Bible Studies or small groups a year.  As a member, we ask you to give consistently.  As a member, we ask you to pray for Journey’s pastors, leadership, and ministries on a regular basis.

Membership Class

Our membership classes are both online and in-person.

The purpose of the membership class is to fully understand what it means to be a member of Journey, a Global Methodist, and a follower of Jesus Christ.

The online portion of the class is to give you more of an understanding of the Global Methodist Church, its mission and core beliefs.  This part is to be completed before the in-person portion.  The online portion shouldn’t take more than two hours total and please do it at your own pace.  We encourage you to take notes and bring questions to your in-person classes.  The videos for the online portion are located in the next column.

The in-person classes are a time to get to know your pastors and other church leaders, hear about serving opportunities, discuss the direction of Journey, learn more details about membership, and answer questions you may have.

Dates of in-person classes:  These will be announced in our weekly email, the bulletin, and in worship.
