Starting Up / Worship Questions

Jesus said, “as often as you do this”.  So he didn’t give us an exact number of times to do it, but we take it to me, “often enough to be meaningful.”  Traditionally, it is done once a month, but we may decide to celebrate it more often than that, depending on the situation, style of service, and church season (i.e. Easter).  Right now we celebrate Holy Communion during the first worship service of the month.

Many churches add burdens upon its members.  To us, this is 100% opposite of what Jesus intended for his church.  As a matter of fact, Jesus said in Matthew 11, “my burden is light.”  One of the biggest issues Jesus had with the Pharisees was that they added a bunch of extra rules on top of having faith.  So much so that following God meant following all of these rules instead of having faith.  So we subscribe to two main rules:  Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and love your neighbor.  If what you do falls within those two, then you are golden.  So yes, you can play cards, but you probably shouldn’t invite your friend over who has a gambling addiction.  Yes, you can have a glass of wine, but you really shouldn’t do it in front of your neighbor who is addicted to alcohol.  Final though on this:  although church membership/rules may not prohibit you, it is important to know that not everything is beneficial.  This understanding comes from the Apostle Paul’s teachings.
