We are sure you have a ton of questions, so we have put together this Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page which hopefully answers some of them. Feel free to contact us if you have any more questions!
General Questions
Yes! We are part of the Global Methodist Church.
Yes! Pastor Mark attended Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
Pastor Mark likes the name “Journey” because he believes that faith is not a destination, but a journey. None of us have “perfect faith”, so we are all taking a journey, of faith, and in faith, together.
Absolutely. Journey Christian Church is incorporated in the state of Nevada as a non-profit religious organization and is a non-profit charity and exempt organization under section 501(c)(3).
What a great question! We strongly believe faith is in three parts, head, heart, and hands. What you do with faith is so important (hands)! We will have opportunities for our church to interact, support, and come along side others who reach out to those in need. We don’t have anything set in stone yet, so if you have something on your heart, feel free to share!
The best way to make sure that there are others “like you” here, is to invite others! We are expecting an eclectic group of people, but we always welcome more. When the Apostle Paul said in Galatians 3, “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus” he was saying that it doesn’t matter what you look like, how rich you are, how educated you are, how poor you are, or if you dropped out of school in the second grade! For we are all one in Christ Jesus! So come, be with us and bring others, even if they are or aren’t “like me.”
The Global Methodist Church is a new denomination based off of traditional Wesleyan theology. If you are looking for a denomination who puts Christ before politics, then you have found the right place!
The biggest compliment Pastor Mark received when leaving his church in Tucson was when a long-time member came up and asked him, “Okay pastor, are you a Republican or Democrat?” The fact the member didn’t know shows how Pastor Mark doesn’t promote politics. He promotes Jesus Christ. Yes, he has his own personal political leanings, but those are his personal opinions. Whenever you interact with Pastor Mark, he will never try to persuade you with one political argument over another. As he says, ‘political issues come and go, God is forever.”
We sure plan to have Children’s Ministry! Right now, in the early church stage we don’t, but we have “busy bags” for the kids during the service, and there is also a children’s message during service. As we grow as a church, we will definitely add something more for the kids for sure! For Jesus loves the little children, and so do we!
While we don’t have an official “Journey Church” Bible, and neither does the Global Methodist Church, Pastor Mark personally prefers three different Bibles:
- New International Version. He prefers this for Bible Studies and during his sermons as it is a clean translation.
- New Living Translation. He prefers this occasionally for sermons, but mainly for his own personal reading and meditating on scripture.
- New Revised Standard Version. He enjoys the NRSV for when he is doing his own personal, in-depth study.
Overall, he recommends you find a Bible translation which is easy for you to read and understand.
